WASHINGTON – A 7-year-old boy was suspended last week from an Anne Arundel County school for chewing a danish into the shape of a gun and saying “bang, bang” to one of his classmates.
The boy’s father, William “B.J.” Welch, told the Washington Post his son originally nibbled his strawberry-filled pastry into the shape of a mountain, but then decided it actually looked more like a gun.
Officials from Park Elementary School said the boy pointed the pastry at a classmate, the Post reports.
“In my eyes, it’s irrelevant. I don’t care who he pointed it at,” Welch told the Post. “It was harmless. It was a danish.”

The suspension comes in the wake of the Sandy Hook massacre in which 20 children and six school staff members were killed.
Since then, two other local children have been suspended for pointing their fingers like weapons, the Post reports.
